[MSN Money UK editors' blog] Newspaper round-up: The Budget 2008: Further editorial writes of “Dozing with Darling, the Napoleon of dullards” and the paper also takes issue with Darlings economic forecasts, saying they are overly optimistic, in spite of him admitting times were tough. Perhaps unusually for the Telegraph it highlights how Darlings “poverty of new ideas abandons millions in the poverty trap”, stating that, according to the treasurys own figures, the less well-off will be more adversely affected by the abolition of the 10 per cent rate of income tax than the wealthy.
[martinturner.org.uk] Very simply, Gordon Brown is in the wrong job: As far as I understand it - and I’m not someone with a huge axe to grind on this issue - the main argument for permitting new levels of experimentation in embryology is an economic one: if we don’t take the lead in the new technology, then other countries will, and Britain will be left behind. I’m not really sure I understand how this argument stacks up when we seem so keen to disinvest in other aspects of British technological leadership that have a much faster return for far less ethical issues.

[Irish Mortgage Brokers: Blog] Is London losing its head?: Supporters of the non-doms say that they are not out there taking the pi$$, they are taxed on UK income the same as anybody else, its just the income they earn elsewhere that they are immune from, the actual way this can work though is that a person from another country sets up a company and goes to work in the UK, the income they earn is paid to the foreign company not to them directly in the UK. so then they don’t have to pay tax, now lets say this company was set up in Nevis, or Antigua?
