Hfamom's Webloghttp://hfamom.wordpress.com/2008/02/19/the-remaining-four-candidates-on-economy/ [Hfamom's Weblog] Former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee’s rise to the top tier of Republican presidential candidates is one of the major stories of this election cycle. Although his strong support among evangelical Christians is a factor in his rise, Huckabee has also benefited from the backing of a small but intense group of people favoring abolition of the federal tax system and its replacement by a 23% national retail sales tax known as the FairTax.

The Seeker[The Seeker] WWED: What will evangelicals do?: People like Wallis and Tony Campolo address these issues and make known that there is another side of the teachings of Jesus that is wholly neglected that should be the quintessential heartbeat of the evangelical: to love and care for the poor, the downtrodden, and the pariahs of society. This translate to an agreement with the policies of the democratic party for a number of us younger generation evangelicals, the advocacy of certain checks on a free market economy, universal or almost-universal healthcare in order to cover the poor, and the repeal of tax breaks for those with higher income.

rhythmismhttp://www.rhythmism.com/forum/showthread.php?t=64646 [rhythmism] Why Don’t Jews Like the Christians Who Like Them?: Christian Smith, a sociology professor at the University of North Carolina, analyzed four surveys of self-identified evangelicals and found that, while they do think that America was founded as a Christian nation and fear that the country has lost its moral bearings, these views are almost exactly the same as those held by non-evangelical Americans. Evangelicals, like other Americans, oppose having public schools teach Christian values, oppose having public school teachers lead students in vocal prayers, and oppose a constitutional amendment declaring the country a Christian nation.

The Washington Independent[The Washington Independent] COMMENTARY: What Evangelical Populism Lost: These days, most evangelicals care more about a moral politics of the body than the Social Gospel—perhaps one reason why Huckabee favors amendments to ban gay marriage and outlaw abortion. But such opinions make millions of Americans uneasy, and could actually help prevent him from being the
