[p2pnet news] The City of Vancouver recently adopted an openness policy that establishes a preference for open standards, open source software, and open government data.  The federal government should do the same, promoting the use of cost-effective open source software and the benefits of commercial and civic activity around accessible government data.  We are seeing some remarkable open government initiatives around the world.  Witness last week’s initiative by the Guardian in the UK, which is crowdsourcing the review of hundreds of thousands of documents detailing MP expenses.  Within days, 20,000 people have taken part with about 160,000 pages reviewed.  There is no reason that we can’t see similar activity in Canada.

[Trinidad Guardian - Main RSS Feed] PM: No stopping smelter plant | The Trinidad Guardian: He said: “The question now arises, if the EMA can be so grossly negligent or incompetent in its evaluation of the smelter project, or if it has acted in bad faith as the judgment also suggests, what guarantees do the public have that similar approaches have not been taken with regard to other applications for environmental clearance coming before it? How much confidence can we have that the EMA has been truthful in its assessments in other things - that its reporting is honest and that it does not engage in cover-ups for the government.

[Mail Online - Peter Hitchens] Dialogue, retorts, answers and general conversation: You have literally provided no evidence for this claim **WHATSOEVER** You state that the Tories core vote being detached from them is a necessary prerequisite for the creation of the New Party that you propose, and that the Tories collapse is a prerequisite for this to happen. Based on the historical precedent of the Labour Party replacing the Liberal party as the no 1 leftist party in the country, is the opposite not the case - that the formation of a viable alternative is a prerequisite to the Tories core vote considering the possibility of not voting Tory - and thus a prerequisite of the Tory collapse - and thus a prerequisite of the political re-alignment that you favour?
