[Politics Daily] , most of the leaders there "generally sided with cutting spending and raising taxes, despite warnings from U.S. President Barack Obama and others that too much austerity too quickly could choke off the global recovery." Obama had pushed for economic growth through stimulation (read: government spending), but other leaders, such as German Chancellor Angela Merkel, called for spending cuts and tax increases to deal with deficits. (With the Greek crisis threatening economies in Europe -- and beyond -- this emphasis on budget-balancing is understandable, whether wise or not.) The meeting ended with a watered-down agreement, no vigorous plan for global economic recovery.

[Open Left - Front Page] Obama's anti-democratic style--and substance: and the various powers that be that would simply not countenance the rise of a serious candidate who was interested in prosecuting or exposing the crimes of the Bush Administration. I believe thats what david mizner was referring to when he said thats the way power works - it simply prevents prosecution from being a legitimate topic of discussion.
[Dissident Voice] The Civilian and the General | Dissident Voice: essentially begging the President to significantly increase troop presence in Afghanistan and widen the war, which has now lasted more than eight years. This is also the same general who we now know was one of the major players in covering up the cause of the death of former NFL millionaire star Pat Tillman who became an Army Ranger, and then was killed by friendly fire in Afghanistan.
[The Heritage Foundation Papers: Economy] Keynesian Fiscal Stimulus Policies Stimulate Debt -- Not the ...: Using a purely statistical approach, Andrew Mountford and Harald Uhlig find an unexpected increase in government spending, beyond what would occur through automatic stabilizers, "weakly stimulates the economy": a 1 percent increase in spending increases output by about 1.3 percent after one year.[9] Proponents of extra increased spending as Keynesian stimulus may take comfort in this result, but then they must also acknowledge that the authors find "a deficit-financed tax cut is the best fiscal policy to stimulate the economy."

[The Oil Drum - Discussions about Energy and Our Future] Drumbeat: June 15, 2010: Due to toxic gases from the fractured oil well in the Gulf of Mexico, the possible off-gassing of the highly-toxic Corexit 9500 (the chemical dispersant used by BP in the oil spill clean-up), acid rain and various as-yet-unknown forms of environmental damage, we believe that the government will have no choice but to relocate millions of people away from the Gulf Coast. Those living in Florida are presently at the highest risk, but the danger also appears likely to spread to all Gulf Coast states east of Louisiana and possibly even to the entire Eastern half of the United States once hurricane season begins.
[OhioDaily -] Obama Mailer Slams Clinton on NAFTA | OhioDaily: Also of some interest may be Hillary's record on "outsourcing". As noted above, a former staunch "free trader", Alan Blinder, has lately had some substantial second thoughts about the "free trade" experiment -- and what he has to say about outsourcing bears repeating: "Alan Blinder of Princeton, a former vice-chair of the Federal Reserve and a staunch Democrat, has taken to arguing that the downsides of unfettered globalization may be far greater than standard doctrine has assumed”in particular, that offshoring and outsourcing may put as many as 40 million American jobs at risk in the next two decades".
