Bill Totten's Weblog: Steady state economy

[Bill Totten's Weblog] Just as economic growth is the predominant macroeconomic policy goal identified or implied by neoclassical economics, the steady state economy is the predominant macroeconomic policy goal identified or implied by ecological economics. To the extent that ecological economics is a normative transdisciplinary endeavor rather than a purely analytical framework, its three main concerns are sustainability, equity, and efficiency, each of which may be served via public policy.

One Reason The Economy Blows: Americans Have Just Gotten Lazy

[The Business Insider: Economy] That said, if Americans keep raising our kids on 1) reality shows where the goal is 15 minutes of fame or a bag of money for doing nothing, 2) idolization of a generation of celebrities who are the shallowest ever, 3) giving them every material good they desire (cell phone, Wii, Playstation, Xbox, iPod, Macbook, Uggs, car, etc etc etc) - how can we expect them to be ready for the hard work and competition that awaits them?

GM's Reuss Chats Up RWD, Fuel Economy | Car News Blog at Motor Trend

[Motor Trend Blog] The performance has always been there and if GM really wants to do a RWD sedan (and I really would love that) then I think they need to do it the right way. I think this would mean designing the Caprice from the ground up with the US market in mind, giving it bad-ass styling like the Camaro, but also figuring out how to make it perform and give some decent fuel economy (plus a nice interior).

Ars Gratia Artis - Saving Music From The Economy - Chris Thomas ...

[Politics on the Rocks] The too-bright stage lights shimmer upon the polished surface of a grand piano behind Sonya Schumann as she stands at a podium in the recital room of the University of South Carolina’s music school.  The senior music major and accomplished concert pianist faces the audience before her with a confidence born of long years on stage but her role in tonight’s performance is an unusual one.  Between full-time studies and part-time jobs, Schumann has spent the better part of the last semester organizing and planning for tonight’s charity concert.  The concert inaugurates a new program at the University, one that is the first of its kind and an unfortunate sign of the times as academic institutions nationwide face budget shortfalls and cutbacks, a “Music Student Emergency Fund.”
