Obama: Economy report a 'good sign' - Carol E. Lee - POLITICO.com

[POLITICO Top Stories] When the newest estimate of 3.5 percent economic growth in the third quarter was announced this week, Obama said the country has "come a long way" since his inauguration, and the new figures are "an affirmation that this recession is abating and the steps we've taken have made a difference." The White House went further Friday, claiming that the $787 billion stimulus has "created or saved" at least 650,000 jobs, or one million if all spending is considered. Yet unemployment is 9.8 percent and rising, so most of those jobs must have been "saved" -- which is a clever way of saying we'll never know.

Breaking: Twitter costs British economy less than people who gaze ...

[TechCrunch Europe] I’m sorry but these statistics are a complete load of nonsense, surely what is really costing is whoever people are paying to sit down for weeks on end to think these things up, if anything I find twitter extremely useful during my working day I’m always finding out about new blog posts and tutorials regarding new web development and design techniques, which are invaluable to my job.

[Breaking News] Britain economy remains in recessionLONDON ”” Britain's statistics office says the domestic economy shrank 0.4 percent in the third quarter of the year ”” dashing hopes that the country may have exited recession. Friday's update from the Office for National Statistics shows that gross domestic product ”” which measures the total amount of goods and services produced by a country ”” was dragged lower in the July to September quarter despite recent gains in Britain's dominant services sector.
