Bush on Economy: 'Wall Street Got Drunk'

The Hill's Blog Briefing Room[The Hill's Blog Briefing Room] Bush is 100% right, the greed of Wall Street lead to this, which was compounded by the Fed putting way too much money into circulation and investors knowing the risk was minimized by the Gov't bailing out financial institutions in a time of crisis. If the Gov't left the free market alone, or had a history of leaving the free market alone, businesses would not have an incentive to take as many risks, but if they did that I guess people would have to actually be responsible for themselves.

There’s More to the Economy Than Taxes

Truthdig: Drilling Beneath the Headlineshttp://www.truthdig.com/report/item/20080721_theres_more_to_the_economy_than_taxes/ [Truthdig: Drilling Beneath the Headlines] Yet if the past 30 years or so have taught us anything, it should be that the global forces shaping the U.S. economy are more powerful than a mere tax cut—or tax hike—and they persist no matter what party is in power and who is president. Jimmy Carter confronted an economic situation that was strikingly similar, in some respects, to the one we face today.

Between Porch & Altarhttp://porchandaltar.wordpress.com/2008/07/18/40-day-fast-day-18-why-i-hate-his-economy/ [Between Porch & Altar] The reason is that I walk with fear and unbelief in my heart is because I do not actually trust that God is good as he has said from his word. In the end I do not actually believe that sowing into God’s economy fasting, praying, giving and serving are really going to create humility in my heart and produce genuine blessing from the hand of the Lord.

MOVEPHILLYhttp://movephilly.blogspot.com/2008/07/whose-take-on-economy-do-you-believe.html [MOVEPHILLY] This isn't good news or bad news for Americans, per se, but it does legitimize the idea that the economy's future direction is in doubt. This is one of the biggest reasons why there's been no clear direction for mortgage rates or stock markets since the start of the year, and that can impact the housing markets, too.

German Factory Orders May 2008

German Economy Watchhttp://germaneconomy.blogspot.com/2008/07/german-factory-orders-may-2008.html [German Economy Watch] I personally will be very surprised if we see growth in the region of 2% for the German economy in 2008, and I even consider the 1.8% from the OECD and 1.5% from Morgan Stanley still on the high side given the extent of downside risk. Basically the reasonably favourable depreciation rules which currently apply to German investment have been changed as of 1 January 2008, and we might reasonably expect to see some sort of impact on investment comparable with the negative shock which hit private domestic consumption following the VAT rise on 1 Jan 2007.

Barack Obamabelieves as working families continue to bear the brunt of our economic downturn that we need to enact another round of immediate tax relief, $300 per family, to help maintain consumer spending, strengthen the economy and ease the squeeze so many Americans are currently experiencing.
