Economists love these type of 'free trade' agreements because (1) economists think capital is cooler than labor (capital can be technologified and, thus, has that cutting edge techie feel sooooo much more than labor) and/or (2) economists are in the service of capital.

Productivity Growth and Foreign Trade balances in the EU and the U.S.
[Atlantic Review - Analysis of Transatlantic Relations and U.S. Foreign Policy] In 2005, the foreign trade balance showed a surplus of EUR 158.2 billion. According to provisional results of the Deutsche Bundesbank, the current account of the balance of payments showed a surplus of EUR 100.9 billion in 2006, which included the balances of supplementary trade items (EUR –19.8 billion), services (EUR –24.4 billion), factor income (net) (EUR +9.8 billion) and current transfers (EUR –26.5 billion).

FLO decides not to raise fairtrade prices
[ James5] recognize the urgent need for a robust review of Fairtrade Coffee Minimum Prices and acknowledged the value of the data submitted by the CLAC. In view of the diversity of Fairtrade coffee-producing regions and coffee-consuming markets, a team at FLO will now obtain and study cost of production data for all coffee regions (including the study provided by the CLAC), seeking further data where necessary, and obtain information to allow a proper assessment of the market impact of different pricing options.
